WWE fans feel a close connection to AJ Lee, as she has been very candid about her personal challenges. Her book, “Crazy Is My Superpower,” shares her full journey and has inspired many fans to share their own stories with the former Divas Champion.
When AJ Lee returned to WWE Raw in September after a 10-year absence, she addressed the “therapy” chants directed at her. During the September 8 episode, AJ revealed she had been undergoing therapy, and a fan responded to this revelation by chanting the word “therapy” in her corner.
In an interview on What’s Your Story with Stephanie McMahon, AJ admitted she was caught off guard by the unexpected chant. She described the reaction as “stunning” but handled it professionally.
“It was a very surprising response. I heard one person start chanting, and soon others joined in chanting ‘therapy.’ I found that really amusing,” she said. “When I realized I needed to engage with the chants, three guys were all chanting ‘therapy,’ and my heart just burst.”
AJ also shared how this moment sparked conversations with fans about their own therapy experiences. She has since received many deeply personal stories and welcomes the opportunity to provide a supportive space.
“If you had a stereotypical idea of wrestling fans, you wouldn’t expect them to be so emotionally in touch and empathetic,” she explained. “It felt like my world connected, and fans even created their own merchandise saying ‘Therapy is cool.’ Since that segment, many people have told me they decided to start therapy. I was amazed by what we had started.”
She concluded, “Combining wrestling and mental health awareness means everything to me. I want my fans to know that’s why I chose to come back.”
AJ Lee’s future in WWE remains to be seen, but there’s a strong possibility she’s headed toward a Women’s Intercontinental title match, which would require facing Becky Lynch first.
AJ is slated to participate in the women’s match at WWE Survivor Series War Games on November 29. This year’s match will feature Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, and AJ Lee against Becky Lynch, Nia Jax, Rush Legends, Asuka from the Kabuki Warriors, and Kairi Sane.
