AEW Welcomes Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Kayden Carter to Their Roster

AEW has recently signed another former WWE star. Under the leadership of Tony Khan, AEW has become a hub for many ex-WWE talents, including major names like Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson. This practice of recruiting former WWE wrestlers is common both for AEW and WWE. Now, let’s explore who the newest addition to the AEW roster is.

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that on November 26th, Lacey Lane, formerly known in WWE as Kayden Carter and a former NXT and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, officially joined AEW. Lane made her AEW debut on the October 7th “Title Tuesday” special, where she faced the TBS Champion Mercedes Mone but came up short. It’s clear she made a positive impression.

Before this, Lane also competed in several matches for AEW’s sister promotion, ROH, in September. Known primarily for her prowess in tag team wrestling and having held the Women’s Tag Team Titles, she might soon seek a new partner—possibly her former WWE partner Katana Chance. Chance recently returned to American Ninja Warrior, and if she continues down that path, Lane may need to find someone new.

Regarding her WWE career, Lane shared in an interview with Dennis Salcedo that she felt undervalued during her WWE tenure. Despite being one half of the first women to hold both the NXT and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside Chance, she believed they were not taken seriously and destined to fail within WWE. Lane signed with WWE in July 2018, participated in the 2018 Mae Young Classic reaching the quarterfinals, and was released along with Chance in May 2025. Her final WWE match was a non-televised tag team victory on the April 18, 2025 episode of SmackDown.

It appears Lane has a fresh start with AEW, and fans hope she finds more success and recognition there. While some wrestlers thrive after leaving WWE, others eventually return, so it will be intriguing to watch Lane’s journey in AEW.

Fan Take: This signing is significant for WWE fans because it highlights the growing talent competition between WWE and AEW, which can lead to better opportunities and performances for wrestlers. Lane’s transition could inspire more women wrestlers to seek new avenues, ultimately enriching the women’s division and the sport as a whole.
