Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano have revived the notorious crazy gringos faction, a name that had previously defined Lucha Libre’s heel heat in AAA. However, according to Sam Adonis, the current reboot was not his initial vision, as he was meant to be a central figure in the group’s comeback.
A fan on X/Twitter suggested including Sam Adonis in a refreshed version dubbed crazy gringos 2.0, alongside Dominik and El Grande Americano. One user commented:
“If they’re reviving Los Gringos 2.0 with my favorite Lucha faction, Dom Mysterio and El Grande Americano, they should definitely include Sam Adonis in this new take on Los Gringos Locos. Trust me on this; you won’t regret it! Incorporate Sam Adonis into Los Gringos Locos 2.0.”
Sam Adonis quickly responded, revealing some behind-the-scenes insights that many fans were unaware of. He stated that before AAA abandoned the group, he had a very different plan for its revival.
“Actually, QT Marshall and I were supposed to become the new Gringos Locos in 2024. AAA even created a logo for merchandise and pre-taped content for television, but certain ‘factors’ led us to drop that idea. Yet, when I collaborate with @DomMysterio35…”
Adonis hinted that his alliance with Dominik Mysterio would be profitable, but he urged fans to imagine how different things could have been. The nature of these “factors” is still unclear, but it appears the promotion quickly changed direction. AAA had merchandise and TV content ready to go before abandoning the concept.
The original crazy gringos faction, formed in the ’90s by Eddie Guerrero and Art Barr, gained notoriety for satirizing Mexican culture in one of the most controversial storylines in AAA’s history. This legacy continues with the updated version featuring Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano, who have gained strong fan support as the latest iteration of this faction.
The current crazy gringos 2.0 will face off against the Lucha Brothers at the upcoming AAA event, Titan War. While Sam Adonis’s version may not have made it to the ring, now that the concept is out there, fans shouldn’t dismiss the possibility of a future twist.
Pro wrestling enthusiasts enjoy faction rivalries, and if AAA is smart, there may still be an opportunity to integrate Adonis into the group later on.
Do you think Sam Adonis should still be a part of Los Gringos Locos 2.0? Would this version be more successful than the current iteration? Share your thoughts in the comments below. I would love to see this happen in AAA.
