Downstate Vocalist Aims to Complete Former WWE Universal Champion’s Anthem

The band Downstate is well-known to WWE fans for their widely popular song “Kingdom,” the entrance theme for Cody Rhodes, which was originally created for AEW but later brought back to WWE. Downstate first created The Miz’s entrance music, “I Came to Win,” in 2011 and has worked with several wrestling stars since. Recently, Downstate guitarist Justin Cole appeared on the Ropes and Riffs Podcast, expressing his interest in revisiting and expanding the theme of former WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens. Cole described Owens’ theme as a “brutal, throaty song” and mentioned he would love to add more elements to it.

In addition to their WWE collaborations, Downstate has also worked with former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker on her theme, “The Epic.” Cole shared that Baker enjoyed the instrumental version and hopes to eventually add vocals to complete the song. He mentioned advising Baker about the impact of adding lyrics to the theme, though AEW and Baker ultimately chose to keep it instrumental. Interestingly, Baker once requested a dentist drill sound in her theme music, but that idea was dropped.

Fan Take: This news highlights how deeply integrated music and wrestling personas are, showing the evolving collaboration between musicians and wrestlers. For WWE fans, revisiting and expanding iconic themes like Kevin Owens’ could add new layers to the wrestlers’ entrance experiences, enhancing the overall atmosphere and storytelling in the sport.
