Wrestler Seth Rollins uncovered more than just his heritage when he took a 23andMe DNA test—he found a sister and brother he never knew existed.
On the podcast Mall Stories, Rollins shared the incredible turn his life took starting in 2019 when curiosity led him to take a DNA test. Having never known his biological father, Rollins initially wanted only to learn about his origins but ended up connecting with family he never expected to find.
Rollins explained, “It was around 2019 when I took the 23andMe test just for fun. My mother got pregnant in 1985, then moved back to Iowa and married Ron Lopez, who I know and call my dad. But I’ve never met my biological father because he wanted nothing to do with me, my mom, or my family.”
Although initially overwhelmed, things took a surprising turn when his half-sister reached out years later. “She messaged me asking, ‘Who the hell is your dad?’ I recognized her last name immediately—I remembered my mother’s story—and I realized I’m probably her half-brother.”
Rollins’ younger half-sister had no idea her father had another child, and the same was true for his half-brother, who struggled to accept the news at first. “She was devastated because her dad never told her or her brother—they had no idea. My half-brother was also in denial at first, thinking it couldn’t be true.”
Despite the initial shock, Rollins said they’ve all come to terms with the new family connections. When it comes to his biological father, he remains distant: “I haven’t met him yet. We have talked, but honestly, I’m not interested in meeting him.”
Rollins’ experience is a reminder that even famous athletes can be caught off guard by unexpected real-life situations. What began as a simple DNA test for fun led to discovering long-lost family members and confronting a past he never anticipated.
