Chris Jericho is rumored to be making a return to WWE soon, but not everyone agrees that he should step back into the ring. Former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman has suggested a different role for Jericho that could change WWE’s on-screen leadership dynamic.
Coachman responded on Twitter to reports from Sports Illustrated’s John Alba, who said Jericho might appear on WWE TV as early as January 5. Coachman pointed out that while many wrestling sites are focused on Jericho wrestling, no one seems to be discussing what role he might take on if he returns.
He proposed that Jericho replace current on-screen authority figure Adam Pearce, bringing fresh energy and charisma to WWE’s leadership. Coachman stated that Jericho, one of his favorite wrestlers, would excel in an authoritative role, delivering standout backstage and in-ring promos.
Coachman also expressed concerns about Jericho’s ability to maintain a demanding wrestling schedule, especially since Jericho has been absent from AEW television since April 2025. He suggested that Jericho doesn’t need to be a top-tier wrestler but should still wrestle three to four times a month, which might be a challenge for Jericho with high-level, lengthy matches.
Reports indicate that Jericho’s AEW contract ends December 31, and many insiders believe he will return to WWE soon after. Although Jericho hasn’t confirmed anything, he teased the possibility by saying “You never know” during a recent Christmas livestream. His decision to livestream on YouTube during AEW’s “World’s End” pay-per-view and his absence from AEW Creative have only fueled speculation.
Whether Jericho returns as an active wrestler or takes on a new authoritative role, the possibility of his WWE comeback is sparking excitement. Coachman’s idea of Jericho as a leader might just be the smartest move for WWE moving forward.
