CM Punk Skips WWE Concussion Protocol Following RAW Bout

3 Min Read

CM Punk took a hard fall on his face during the main event of RAW on January 5, sparking rumors that the WWE World Heavyweight Champion had been placed in concussion protocol. However, it has now been confirmed that this is not the case. PWInsider dismissed the rumors, stating, "There have been rumors all day," and clarified that reports of Punk being checked for a head injury are "completely wrong."

The speculation initially came from Brian Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, who suggested Punk might be in concussion protocol after a tough spot involving Tope Suicida, where Punk landed hard on the floor. Alvarez mentioned that Punk seemed out of it after the fall and said, "It could have been CM Punk, because that guy landed on his face… Punk fell straight down and his head bounced off the black mat," and added, "If he hadn’t been in concussion protocol after that, I would have put him there, because it seemed cruel."

However, PWInsider revealed the theory to be false, noting that Punk was active the very next morning with numerous live media appearances across New York City, including on Good Day New York on FOX 5. If he had a concussion, such a busy schedule would have been impossible. The outlet commented, "When you think about it, this story doesn’t deserve scrutiny… If Punk were to suffer a concussion, the last thing anyone would want is to be in front of a camera doing interviews all day long."

During the FOX interview, despite looking bruised, Punk did not sit out and even joked about his tough night: "Yeah, we were at Barclays Center. Yeah… I did. I survived. I think I survived." He also added, "I don’t know what it’s like to feel like a real human being… this is just every day for me."
