There’s a lot going on during WrestleMania weekend, especially outside the range of WWE and WrestleMania itself. One such event that took place during Joey Janella’s spring break saw former AEW star Fuego del Sol end when his career changed forever and perhaps he lost a Musk vs. GCW career match to WWE ID tournament attendee Atticus Cogar.
Fuego, who took X early on Saturday morning, posted a clip of his mask loss, including that he was not masked. Perhaps the more interesting part after Fuego handed his mask to Cogar is what is reserved for wrestlers who usually seek retirement, as Lukador sits in the ring, puts out his boots and leaves him in the center.
“11 years,” Fuego said in a tweet. “Ups. Downs. Everything between everything. I’m selfish and doing this. Now is the time to focus on family and feed. I’ve left everything that was left in the ring… including the boots. From the bottom of my heart… I’m grateful for everything.
Debuting in 2015, Fuego was a largely unknown independent wrestler before appearing in “Aew Dark” during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Dark” and his best friend Sammy Guevara’s appearance on the YouTube Vlog led Fuego to develop a fan following, and he was eventually signed to AEW in the first episode of “Aew Rampage” in August 2021.
Fuego remained in the promotion for the next two years before being let go in 2023, but later made sporadic appearances for AEW and Ring of Honor when the promotion took place in the Southwest. The 29-year-old hinted at a change in his career in February, suggesting that the recent ROH appearance could be the last of the promotion.
