There’s something about masks that change everything, and Chad Gable knows that. Gable’s WrestleMania season ended with a back-to-back loss, but his masked alter ego, El Grande Americano, hasn’t dropped a single match since his debut. And now he’s one win away from winning his first single title in WWE.
Americano is undefeated in the WWE Speed Competition and recently defeated Erik in the opening round. Today, he raised it again and beat Alex Shelley in the semi-finals in just 39 seconds on a three-minute clock. The match marked the first-ever singles clash between the two, and Americano sealed it off with a diving headbutt (all loaded) before pinning the former tag team champion.
The stage has been set. Dragonlee defends the WWE Speed Championship against El Grande Americano on X/Twitter next Wednesday at 12pm.
This is not a new realm for either person. Dragon Lee and Chad Gable have already faced three times in singles matches, with Lee winning the first two encounters. However, it was Americano who scored a singles victory at Lee last month on Raw.
Identity may be masked, but missions are clear. And under the El Grande American persona, he finally never approached doing it.
El Grande Americano is on the roll and Dragon Lee is waiting next week, allowing fans to witness a career-changing victory in Chad Gable’s alter ego. This speed title match could be the start of something bigger.
Has El Grande Americano always needed a breakout personachado gable? Or will Dragon Lee close its momentum once? Please drop your views in the comments.
