Six years after its existence, AEW does not yet operate 2300 Arena, the former home of ECW in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. However, it is about to change as it has just announced its two-week residence at the venue in the coming months.
Between Wednesday, August 27th and Thursday, September 11th, AEW will host seven events at the arena. This includes three “AEW dynamite” tapings, three “AEW collision” tapings, and the death of ROH before the Dishonor Pay-Per-View. The latter previously announced event is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 5th.
The AEW has run many times in Philadelphia, but always runs at the Leakourus Center, which has far greater capabilities. This time the switch to the 2300 Arena is the latest move in its strategy to book small venues for “dynamite” and “clash” and isn’t the first time AEW has retained its residency. The promotion was tapered several weeks of “collision” taping in Arlington, Texas in the summer of 2024.
According to Khan in a press release for upcoming residency, it has been in work for years. AEW Booker and co-owners also pointed out his excitement in returning to 2300 Arena for the first time since he attended ECW when he was only 13 years old.
Tickets for these shows are not available yet, but information about the front line is said to be coming soon. The residency is expected to begin shortly after the promotion returns from the UK. There, we will introduce the AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door at O2 in London on August 24th.
