The former WWE Champion wants to revive the old gimmick

The former WWE Tag Team Champion wants to bring back the old gimmicks, but wants to do it with non-registered ability.

D-Von Dudley brought back the pastor’s persona for a music video during a feud between NXT’s Trick Williams and Ethan Page.

The pair faced off at NXT Halloween Havoc, with Williams retaining the NXT Championship at the event on October 27, 2024.

Pastor D-Von was a short-lived character with Dadley joined by Deacon Batista and serving as Vince McMahon’s spiritual advisor.

The character only existed for a short period of time in 2002, but Dudley recently re-experimented the character on his YouTube channel, discussing Williams’ return on the video, saying:

“So one thing that made me happy was that on NXT, Trick Williams wanted to do a video of him getting ready for the match.

“So when he called me, he said, “D-von, you did the D-von character for the pastor, and I loved it. I hope you come to this video and do exactly what you did back then.”

“I was excited. “Yes, I have the opportunity to showcase the characters of Pastor D-von that are approaching a new generation of fans.”

The WWE Hall of Fame inductee made it clear that he hopes he can regain it again before discussing the impact of Rev. D-Von’s return, saying:

“It was a great response. It was something the fans really enjoyed, because I really felt like the characters were doing really well and I just couldn’t get it.”

“I’ll look back on that. I don’t think that was my mistake. I think it was the company that really let it breathe and didn’t make it happen.

D-Von Dudley, who served as a producer at WWE until his departure in January 2023, has previously said he is “certain” to return to the company in the future.

D-Von and Bubba Ray Dudley have held the WWE Tag Team Championship nine times and have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the 2018 class.
