Sting was opened about the pitch he received to sign with AEW following his departure from WWE in May 2020.

Sting’s AEW debut took place at Dynamite: Winter will come in December 2020 and play their first match at the company the following March.

Currently under a licensing agreement with AEW, Sting is now open to the pitch that took him to the company in the first place.

Speaking with screen rants, Sting reflects that after the 2015 WWE Night of Champions suffered a neck injury, his in-ring career was over.

“It seems there have been a recurring theme that has happened to me several times over the years, and it is always tied to WWE, and it has to do with disappearing between my legs with my tail, as it is, speaking, so to speak.

He then revealed that Cody Rhodes and Tony Kahn reached out to him and asked if he wanted to “go back and play” at AEW, and explained:

“But I got a call from Tony Kahn and Cody. Cody Rhodes also called me and just said, and Tony said, “Hey, do you want to go back and play for a while?”

Sting says he considers Kern’s demands and that his concerns are due to his own age, not to mention whether Aew’s young roster wants to see him, and whether the fanbase wants.

Khan adds, along with his WWE Hall of Fame, to dispel Sting’s concerns about the roster and fan acceptance:

“Tony was sure the fans would go crazy on top of that. He built my confidence. I had a great conversation with him.

“I saw some of the talent there and started paying attention. For example, Derby Allyn seemed to feel like WCW when I saw their show.”

Sting and Allin continue to host the AEW World Tag Team Championships during their veteran tenure.

His era as a competitor in the ring ended with the AEW revolution in March 2024, with Sting and Allyn undefeated as world tag team champions and beating the young Bucks.
