WWE’s “Women’s Revolution” began around 2015 with the NXT Women’s Division boom, when those new stars bleed into the main roster, prompting a surge in more exposure, better storylines and prominent bookings. Over the past decade, many “first-timers” have been held for women in WWE, including the PPV/PLE main event. But in the meantime, when it comes to the biggest shows, there were only 10 female main events on the main roster.
This is almost not enough anywhere. During that time, there have been a great deal of opportunities for WWE to book headliners that have involved extremely talented women on their roster. Let’s look at some of the cases where women need to be the main focus and events of WWE PLE/PPV, but ultimately they are not.
Sasha Banks vs Charlotte Flare (Road Block 2016)
The final chapter of their long 2016 feud
Actual main event | Kevin Owens vs. Rome Reign |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Sasha Banks vs Charlotte Flare |
Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair were the first women to make the WWE PPV of Hell the main event at the Cell 2016 event, but they should do so again in a few months. At Road Block 2016, they completed a long rivalry in the Iron Woman match and once again put together a great match.
Instead of this major matchup closing the show, the main event was handed over to Rome Reign vs Kevin Owens for a universal title…it ended with disqualification. WWE may have had a Flair & Banks classic that brings clean results in the place.
Women’s Royal Rumble (Royal Rumble 2022)
The show would have ended with a better note
Actual main event | Men’s Royal Rumble Match |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Women’s Royal Rumble Match |
The only time the Women’s Royal Rumble made the main event an event was in 2018 at the first show. It’s strange since then that WWE has decided to play a women’s match as it’s not suitable for the main event. 2022 was the most obvious example of WWE choosing the wrong match for the main event.
Neither Royal Rumble was particularly great, but the boys were absolutely terrifying and featured predictable and boring winners at Brock Lesnar. This would have been a more appealing ending for fans.
Iyo Sky Vs. Bianca Bella vs. Rhea Ripley (WrestleMania 41)
WrestleMania’s best matches should be the main event
Actual main event | Cody Rhodes vs John Cena |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Iyo Sky vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley |
John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes was attracting attention, but on paper it was the right main event, and when everything was said and done, it was the wrong choice. WrestleMania Sunday opened with a better match at the Women’s World Championships at Iyo Sky vs. Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Rhea Ripley.
Especially four years after the final Women’s WrestleMania main event, this will be a great opportunity to showcase more women there. Cena vs. Rhodes was a game that was not very well received in the end.
Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Lucy (Backlash 2022)
Rousey & Flair was avoided for the second month in a row
Actual main event | Bloodline vs. Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton & Matt Riddle |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Lucy |
Despite initial plans for main event WrestleMania 38 from Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey, WWE decided to pass the spot instead to Steve Austin vs Kevin Owens. A month later, Flair & Rousey was snabbed wrongly again because they needed the heading for the Backlash 2022 heading.
WWE instead left the six tag team match in the main event to the line in the main event. This was another slap in the faces of Rousey and Flair, who once again won a strong match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Bailey Vs. Sasha Banks (Hell’s Cell 2020)
This feud was worthy of the PPV main event
Actual main event | Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Bailey vs. Sasha Banks |
Sasha Banks and Bailey were the first women in the headlines of a special WWE event (back to NXT), but they never repeated that feat together on the main roster.
Hell in a Cell 2020 was headlined by Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre, but in reality it was supposed to be Banks & Bailey instead.
Women’s Ladder Match (Bank Money 2024)
This would have been a much better show closer for PPVs
Actual main event | Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens vs. Pedigree |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Women’s money at bank ladder match |
Bank Ladder Match Women Money has never made the main event of the MITB event. It wasn’t even the first women’s match in 2017 (this was probably a good thing considering the finish).
In 2024, the men’s game opened a show late at night as Drew McIntyre won cash. So it makes sense to ultimately give a woman a show closer. Instead, it was yet another bloodline-centric main event, and it became a rather boring way to end the night. Tiffany Stratton’s victory would have been a better way to close the night.
Charlotte Flair vs Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch (WrestleMania 32)
Official play of women’s wrestling on the main roster
Actual main event | Triple H vs. Rome Reign |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Charlotte Flare vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch |
The main event of Wrestlemani 32 was a slow and boring battle between Roman rule and Triple H. A much better match took place early in the evening between the three most important figures of the WWE Women’s Revolution: Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch.
The match has a big sense of fighting, and also focuses on the brand new WWE Women’s Championship, retiring from the Diva title in the process. Statements can be further produced by providing the main event.
Becky Lynch Vs. LITA (Removal Chamber 2022)
Lita deserves at least one WWE PPV main event
Actual main event | Bobby Rushley vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins vs. Austin Theory vs. AJ Style vs. Matt Riddle |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Becky Lynch vs Rita |
It makes sense that the removal room is finding its own event, but the men’s game in 2022 was a complete disaster. Brock Lesnar crushed the field in a terrible main event.
Becky Lynch and Rita struggled for the first time, but in reality they deserved to find themselves in the main event instead, and ultimately gave Rita a headline match in the PPV. It would have been a better sight than the actual main event.
Asuka vs Charlotte Flair vs Bianca Bella (Summerslam 2023)
Iyo Sky’s Cash-In could have finished the show in a better way
Actual main event | Rome’s rule vs Jay Uso |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair |
Asuka vs Charlotte Flare vs. Bianca Bel Air was a strong match for the WWE Women’s Championship, even in an inactive build. In the aftermath, Iyo Sky cashed her money in a bank briefcase in a wonderful moment. This would have served as a attention-grabbing, exciting, and unpredictable main event.
Instead, WWE booked a long, tattered, overbooked match between Rome Reign and Jayus, taking his life from Summer Slam in 2023.
Becky Lynch Vs. Sasha Banks (Hell’s Cell 2019)
This was not a scary main event
Actual main event | Seth Rollins vs. Bray Wyatt |
---|---|
It should be the main event | Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks |
The 2019 main event between Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt was one of the worst cases in WWE history, and the show was considered among the worst in WWE history.
Fans had forgotten the great hell in the Cell match between Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. Ending with this ingenious, exciting, intense match could have saved the show.
