AEW’s biggest event of the year is set to take place soon at Globe Life Field, marking the first time the company has hosted its marquee show in the United States. Previously, the event was held twice at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The reason for the change in location for 2025 is tied to the British band Coldplay. According to a report from Fightful Select via a Discord Server, Coldplay had already booked Wembley Stadium, which prevented AEW from hosting the event there for a third consecutive year. AEW President Tony Khan confirmed this during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, noting that Coldplay had reserved the venue years in advance and that AEW was given ample notice to secure alternative venues and dates.
Interestingly, Coldplay is not scheduled to perform on August 24th, the date of AEW’s event. The company has held multiple shows at Wembley Stadium between August 22nd and September 8th in the past, including an upcoming pay-per-view named “Banned Doors” at the O2 Arena on August 24th. AEW plans to return to Wembley in 2026, indicating that this move to Texas is likely a one-year adjustment.
Fan Take: This news is significant for AEW fans because it highlights the growing pains of the promotion as it expands globally. The shift back to the U.S. could bring a fresh dynamic to AEW’s flagship event, offering fans a new atmosphere while still maintaining plans to re-engage the UK audience in the future.
