Cody Rhodes shared his thoughts on Brock Lesnar’s return to WWE.
The company sparked debate by bringing back Lesnar at last Sunday’s SummerSlam event. Lesnar, who has been sidelined from WWE TV for over 18 months amid an ongoing lawsuit involving Janelle Grant and Vince McMahon, received clearance from WWE Legal just weeks ago, prompting his comeback.
Following the announcement of WWE’s new PLE deal, Rhodes spoke with ESPN about Lesnar’s return and highlighted WWE’s ongoing efforts to recruit athletes from various sports backgrounds into sports entertainment.
Rhodes explained, “During SummerSlam weekend, we had tryouts with many athletes from different sports. Tiffany Stratton is a prime example of someone who transitioned from sports to become a wrestler and a key part of sports entertainment.”
Cody Rhodes praised Lesnar’s blend of amateur wrestling and MMA credentials, saying he perfectly fits WWE’s evolving direction.
He added, “Brock—an NCAA champion and UFC heavyweight champion—is exactly how WWE is bridging sports and entertainment.”
Rhodes was also Lesnar’s last opponent before his hiatus, with their rivalry culminating in a match at SummerSlam 2023.
