2 Min Read

Last month, AEW wrestler Darby Allin was set to compete in the company’s annual Continental Classic tournament as part of the Gold League. He faced Kevin Knight in his opening match on November 26th during AEW Dynamite but got injured during the bout, which led to a brief hospitalization and his subsequent removal from the tournament. In a recent interview with 11Alive, Allin shared an update on his recovery.

“I passed all the protocols AEW required, but considering the situation, they advised me to take a few weeks off and rest,” Allin explained. Reflecting on his earlier climb to the summit of Everest, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing personal well-being over constantly being in the public eye. As a result, he isn’t too disappointed about missing out on the Continental Classic.

Allin noted, “Many worry about losing their spot or being on TV every week, but it’s crucial to think about the long term.” Meanwhile, “Jungle” Jack Perry took Allin’s place in the tournament and competed on Wednesday’s Dynamite but was defeated by Kazuchika Okada. It appears that the former TNT Champion’s absence will be temporary.

Fan Take: This update highlights Darby Allin’s commitment to health and longevity in his career, a critical message for AEW fans who value wrestler safety. His temporary absence opens the door for fresh matchups, keeping the competition exciting while ensuring athletes don’t rush back from injury prematurely.
