WWE has revealed plans to return to Philadelphia with a special event set to take place shortly before AEW begins its residency in the city. AEW’s residency at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia kicks off on August 27th. In contrast, WWE’s special edition of NXT will be held earlier, on August 19th, at Met Philadelphia, which is distinct from the AEW venue.

According to a press release dated July 7th, WWE stated that this special NXT episode will air live on the CW network at 8 PM EST. Tickets go on sale starting July 9th, with a pre-sale available on July 8th using the code NXTLive. The release also highlighted WWE’s November 2023 partnership with CW that brings NXT to broadcast TV for the first time, joining other live sports programming on the network.

So far, no matches have been announced for the NXT special event. Met Philadelphia is located on North Broad Street, under five miles from 2300 Arena, which had previously hosted WWE NXT on November 6, 2024.

Fan Take: This WWE event ahead of AEW’s residency shows how both wrestling promotions are intensifying their presence in Philadelphia, ramping up competition and fan excitement. For AEW fans, it means heightened buzz and potentially bigger crowds, fueling the growth and visibility of pro wrestling as a whole.
