WWE SmackDown Results (5/8/26): Live Match Updates and Highlights
The show opens with a graphic tribute to the recently deceased Ted Turner and a video package that looks at the match between Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett then welcome us to the show, Jacob Fatu’s music hits, and he makes his way down to the ring. Fatu then grabbed the microphone and began saying that he would not be competing for the title against Roman Reigns tomorrow night at Backlash. Fatu then said he would take the title. Fatu said that all that everyone saw in Roman from an early age was the future. Then Fatu says that they did not see anything in him from childhood. Fatu then said they wanted to speak kindly to him and told him to stand back and fall in line. Then Fatu says no, absolutely not. Fatu then says he saw this with Roman before. And Fatu says history repeats itself. Fatu then says that everyone he’s talking to isn’t trying to protect him, they’re trying to protect Roman. Fatu said he had a chance when Roman was born. Then Fatu says he was born with doubts.
The Usos’ music then hits and they make their way down to the ring. Jimmy says they’re not here to change his mind. Jimmy then says that nothing they say will change what will happen tomorrow. Jimmy then says he’s proud of Fatu for being in the main event of Backlash against Roman. Jimmy then says that he respects Fatu because he knows where he comes from. Jimmy then says that part of him is rooting for Fatu, but another part of him cares about him. Then Jimmy said he knows how important this “W” is to you. Jimmy said did you sit there and think about what would happen if you lost tomorrow?
Jay then says that Fatu wasn’t thinking about that. Then Jay says you’ll fly off the rail just like him. Jay then said that tomorrow night he would defeat that man. Then Jay says that’s not the worst part. Then Jay said the worst thing you can do is break you down mentally and physically. Jay then says he is going to do that to you in front of his family. Jimmy then says that tomorrow your family will have a front row seat to see this. Jimmy said, “If we lose.” Jay says this when he loses. Jimmy then says your wife and kids will have to approve of Roman. Jimmy and Jay raise their fingers.
Then Fatu says no, absolutely not. Fatu then says he is going to break it for them. Fatu then says that he is not defeated. Then Fatu says he can’t lose. Fatu then says that you are trying to convince yourself that you lost against Roman. Then Fatu says you can never beat Roman. Fatu tells Jimmy that if he loses, that’s what you say. Then Fatu says there is nothing to lose or admit. Fatu said this is more than just the main event, it’s about the family. Fatu said that if there was one thing his family could see him do, it would be to become the new WWE Champion. Fatu says Roman is ready to die for his family. Fatu says one more thing. And Fatu says he swears to God that if you two think about interfering with the match tomorrow, he’ll burn this whole damn family tree down.
Next, let’s take a look back at Cody Rhodes and Gunther’s post-game actions in last week’s game against the Ricky Saints.
Then we see Kathy Kelly and Nick Aldis. She brings up that Gunther is scheduled to be here. Nick says Gunther’s actions are unacceptable. Then Nick says GUNTHER is a member of RAW. Ricky Saints then steps in and says he should talk to him. Ricky then says it was a great debut and says he’s now playing against QB4. Matt Cardona then comes out and talks to Ricky Saints. He says he did not come to pass the torch, but to run with it.
We then see Nick Aldis instructing Jacob Fatu to get ready for tomorrow. Later, Lois Keyes stopped to talk to Fatu and said she heard what her cousins said. Then Keyes says fear is not an option. Keyes then asks when was the last time Jacob Fatu feared anyone breathing the same air as him? Keyes then says he’ll take whatever he wants. Keys then continues walking and finds Solo Chicoa. He then tells Solo to be careful what he says. Solo then says you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And he says the family has a place for Lois, but time is running out.
A video from Chelsea Green then played, saying that although she couldn’t be there, she wanted to wish Tiffany Stratton well.
Tiffany Stratton then makes her way down to the ring for the first match of the night, followed by Kiana James and Julia.
WWE United States Women’s Championship Match: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Kiana James
The match begins with both women locked up, with James pushing Tiffany away and Tiffany pushing back. James then hits a side headlock and a reversal on Tiffany. Tiffany then hits a slingshot headlock takedown. Tiffany then hits a clothesline. Tiffany then hits an Irish whip and James floats away. Tiffany then sends James to the apron and as James hits a kick, Tiffany slams her foot into the ring post. They then get back in the ring and James hits a suplex. James kicks the hamstring and she works the knee. James then throws a punch and she chokes Tiffany into the ropes. James sends Tiffany into the turnbuckle and hits a springboard knee to the roped leg.
James then nearly falls. James then hits a series of Irish whips, but Tiffany hits an elbow. James then hits Tiffany with a few kicks to regain control of the match. James then hits a knee DT, but she gets a near fall. Tiffany then hits a bunch of forearms, but James hits a kick to send her back to the mat. James then landed a few kicks to the hamstring. Then James throws a punch. But Tiffany hits a few chops and as she goes for a dropkick, James grabs the ropes. James then finishes with a single leg club. Tiffany then crawls onto the rope and reaches it. James then takes his time and releases the hold, and James kicks Tiffany to the floor in front of Julia. James demands to know why Julia didn’t do anything, and the two return to the ring. Tiffany then hits a few chops and forearms.
Tiffany then hits a few clotheslines and hits a handspring back elbow. Tiffany then hits a handspring cutter and a dropkick for a nearfall. James then hits a kick to the midsection but she misses the running boot. Furthermore, James performs a thrust kick and a handspring roundhouse kick. James then hits a Death Valley Driver for a near fall. James then lands several punches on Tiffany. James then sends Tiffany into the turnbuckle and hits some shoulders. Then, when Tiffany moved, James missed her shoulder in the corner and James hit the ring post. Tiffany then wakes James up and Julia gets on the apron. James then escapes and gets a rollup, but the referee is on Julia. Tiffany then knocked Julia off the apron and she hit a forearm. She then performed the most beautiful moonsault of all time to win.

After the game, Julia and James exchanged words.
Then I went to the Gingerbread Man viewing room and Sami Zayn showed up. Sami says she wants to know how this is happening. Nick Aldis then said that people need closure and asked Sami to show respect for the legal process. R-Truth then shows up and holds a rose for Sami’s loss. And he says he’s like family. Truth then says that she is very proud of Sami and talks about him all the time. Truth then tells Sami to be strong.
Next up are Kathy Kelly and Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. She asks about the match. Rhea says she wanted to make an impression and that’s what happened. And she says they were the wrong choice to attack. Then she said that’s why she was looking forward to tonight. Then Charlotte says they can help each other out. Then Charlotte says she’s trying to be a team player. Leah then asks if Charlotte is trying to fight her over everything. Leah then asks if there will be a problem and Charlotte also asks her. Alexa then says that they are both big and strong. She then told me that she had tagged me before and that I could tag her again. Leah then says that as long as Charlotte is there, everything will be fine. Then Charlotte says it’s okay.
Later, in the locker room, Damian Priest appears and R-Truth talks about Sami Zayn. The priest says his heart is not in it. He then says he wants to get revenge on Tara for what happened last week. Then Truth said let’s go because we have to deal with it. Priest then tells Truth that he is not 100% sure and that they will come after him, so he wants Truth to stand down. Then Truth says they are tag champions. Priest then says that he is proud that they are champions, but he doesn’t want anything to happen to Truth. Priest then tells Truth to trust him.
Tara Tonga and Solo Sicore then go down to the ring for the next match of the night, followed by Damien Priest.
Single match: WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest vs. MFT Tara Tonga
The match begins with Priest hitting an elbow that sends Tara to the floor. Priest then hits a forearm off the apron and he hits another forearm. Tara then hits a knee kick, but Priest hits a thrust kick. Tara then catches Priest with a cyclone kick and Tara slams Priest into the ring post. Tara then hits a punch and sends Priest to the apron. Tara then slams the announce desk. Priest then hits a big boot, but Tara hits a right hand. Priest then hits a roundhouse kick to the head and Tara falls out of the ring. Priest then heads outside, jumps down the iron stairs, and hits Tara with his double axe.
Priest then hits a big boot on Solo who is sitting on a chair. Priest then sends Tara back into the ring. Priest then climbs to the top rope and hits a flying clothesline. He then goes for a cover but Tara kicks out. Tama Tonga then slips out and distracts the referee. Solo then goes up to the ring apron, but Priest shoves him down. Priest then turns around and Tara hits a clothesline. He then goes for a cover, but Priest kicks out. Priest then rolls out of the ring. R-Truth’s music then plays and he walks out. R-Truth then hits right hands on Tama and Solo. Tama then grabs R-Truth and Solo goes for the Samoan Spike. Furthermore, Priest heads outside and presses Solo onto Tama. Priest then speaks to R-Truth. But Tara hits a right hand. He then sends Priest into the ring. He then achieved the T-bomb chokeslam for the win.
The single match winner is Tara Tonga from MFT!
After the match, Truth checks on Priest while Tama, Solo, and Tara surround them. He then makes his way down to the ring as Royce Keys’ music plays and Solo, Tama and Tara leave. Solo then thinks Keyes is with them and does nothing.
Now let’s look at what happened to Danhausen, The Miz, and Kit Wilson last week. Danhausen is trying to get people to sign on as his partners. Kit and Miz show up, and Miz says that Danhausen doesn’t have a partner. Kit then calls Danhausen toxic. Kit then tells Miz to bide his time and destroy Danhausen with Backlash. Kit then says that Danhausen is the only person toxic enough to team up with Danhausen. Danhausen looked in the mirror and said that was a great idea. Danhausen then gets up and leaves.
We then see Paul Heyman walking behind and standing in front of Nick Aldis’ office. Then Heyman opens the door and walks in.
We then see Hulk Hogan bodyslamming Andre the Giant at WrestleMania 3, Steve Austin being arrested, and John Cena celebrating winning the title. In three of the photos, a gingerbread man can be seen in attendance.
We then see Paul Heyman in the office with Nick Aldis. Ardis tells them that everything they discussed is in the contract. Gunther shows up and Heyman hands him a contract. Then he tells him as requested. Aldis then tells Gunther that his actions last week were unacceptable, but that he is happy to have him back on SmackDown. Gunther then asked Aldis if he really wanted to talk to the future WWE Champion like that. The TV behind them shows Cody Rhodes coming down to the ring. Gunter then says it’s his time. He then says he doesn’t do business like this and hands Aldis the contract. Gunther leaves and Heyman tells Aldis he will handle it.
Cody then asks Jacksonville what he wants to talk about. Cody then says that last week Gunther showed he was next in line. Cody asks Gunther to come out and tell him that. Paul Heyman interrupts and brings out the contract. Heyman then says he has a problem and he’s here to solve it. Heyman then says he has a contract for a title match. Cody interrupts and asks Heyman if he’s defending Gunther. Cody then says that if everyone is here, they can have a match right now. Heyman then says that he owes Gunther a favor. Heyman then says that this is a debt he owes Gunther. Heyman then says he’s a big Cody Rhodes fan. Heyman then says that’s why he wanted Cody to know that if the Undisputed Title was on the line, he needed a contract.
Heyman then says the contract for the title match is not in Jacksonville, Florida. Heyman then says the deal is not for the United States. Heyman then said that if Cody agreed, the match with Gunther would take place in Turin, Italy at Clash. Heyman then says that Gunther’s favor was to set it up, but if Cody wants Gunther to sign the contract, he’ll have to sign it himself. Heyman then hands Cody a contract.
Cody then says Brock Lesnar retired against him, Roman wants nothing to do with him, and CM Punk dumped him. Cody then says Heyman is in the ring and asks him to listen to him. Cody then says it’s because Heyman doesn’t have a choice. Heyman then says that the way he sees it, he’s not out of options. Heyman then leaves the ring and says that sooner or later they all need a wise man.
Gunther then runs through the crowd, but Cody stops him. Gunther then finishes with a sleeper and Cody hits Gunther with the microphone. GUNTHER then reapplies the sleeper and Cody snap filly GUNTHER to the floor. Cody then asks if you want everyone to roll out the red carpet and kiss your a**. Cody then knocked Gunther off the apron several times. He then asked Gunther if he was sweating after what he did to Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles. Cody then says that it’s easy to find him on SmackDown, but hard to beat him.
Tama Tonga is then seen telling Solo Shikoa that he is a problem that needs to be dealt with. Solo then says he is the solution and the perfect fit for the family. Tama then says that Lois Keyes came here and humiliated her in front of everyone. Then he said it wasn’t for him. He then says he will show Keyes who he really is. Solo then tells Tara that if Tama wants to go out on her own, she should find it herself.
Matt Cardona then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night, followed by Ricky Saints.
Single match: Matt Cardona vs. “Absolute” Ricky Saints
The match starts with both men locking up and Ricky gets a shoulder tackle. Ricky then goes to the ropes, but Matt hits him with a shoulder tackle. Matt then hits a clothesline. Matt then grabs Ricky, but Ricky slams Matt into the turnbuckle. Ricky then hits a chop to the chest, but Matt hits a right. Matt then sends Ricky into the ropes and hits a flapjack and clothesline in the corner. Ricky then goes to the floor to avoid a Woo Woo Kick. Matt then hits a dropkick over the ropes and Ricky attacks the ringside fence. Ricky has had enough and decides to return to ringside. Matt then hits a few forearms and Ricky hits a kick and clothesline. Ricky then lands a few punches.
Ricky then chokes Matt with the ropes. Matt then hits a forearm and Ricky hits a forearm and knee drop for a near fall. Ricky then chokes Matt against the ropes and hits a splash on the back. Ricky then misses an elbow drop and Matt hits a forearm. Ricky then grabs the ropes to avoid a dropkick from Matt. Ricky then hits an elbow drop for a near fall. Ricky then locks in a reverse chinlock. Ricky then hits a knee to the midsection and gets a knee drop. Ricky then hits an Irish whip and a forearm. Ricky then goes to the ropes and hits Old School. Matt then hits a forearm and Matt gets on his knees. Matt then hits a faceplant and a few forearms in the corner. Matt then sets up a Woo Woo Boot for a near fall.
Ricky then avoids Unprettier with a forearm. Ricky then hits a twist reverse DDT for a near fall. Ricky then goes for Roshambo, but Matt hits a backdrop. Ricky then goes to the floor to avoid the Rough Rider. Ricky then drops Matt onto the top rope. Matt then hits a Rough Rider for a near fall. Ricky then wins with a deep throat double thrust, tornado DDT, and Roshambo.

Then he saw Sami Zayn in the room with the coffin and he said this was a joke. We then see Sami talking to Johnny Gargano. Sami then asks if Johnny Wrestling is still there. Candice LeRae then shows up and she says Johnny didn’t move. Sami asks Rey Fenix what he is doing here. Ray then says that he respects the gingerbread man. Sami then says that everyone is rooting for him. Ray then tells Sami this is a different place and Sami agrees and leaves.
Paige and Brie Bella are then seen walking behind them and the ladder falls.
We then see Blake Monroe putting on makeup. She says anything you love can be yours. Then she says she will come soon.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Brie Bella and Paige then come down to the ring. Bree says there are a lot of teams that claim they have what it takes to beat them and become champions. Brie then says that she taught Nia and Rush that it won’t be easy to take away the title. Bree then says that no matter who the opponent is, the outcome is the same. Page then brings up stories about “Judgment Day” and the nostalgic tour. Then Paige says it’s been a long time. Then Paige said it was the best they had ever seen and had ever seen. Paige then says if you want to step up, step up.
Then the deadly effects interrupt. Jaycee says she’s heard enough. Then Jaycee says you don’t need to worry about Judgment Day because you’re out of your mind. And she says she can’t imagine them getting in the way of winning the title. Then Nia says they look like a copy of Mean Girls. Rush then tells them to go to the back of the line and Rush punches Bree and Paige. Then Nia hits a leg drop on Paige and Rush hits a Rush extension on Brie.
Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss then come down to the ring for the next match of the night. Rhea then confronts Rush Legend, Nia grabs Rush and they walk backwards.
6-man tag match: WWE Women’s Champion “The Eradicator” Rhea Ripley & Sharlexa (“The Queen” Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss) vs. Fatal Influence (Jaycee Jayne, Fallon Henry, Lainey Reid)
The match starts with Alexa and Fallon, with Fallon grabbing Alexa by the hair and slamming her to the mat. Fallon celebrated and Alexa landed a few punches and kicks. Alexa then mocks Fallon. Alexa then blocks a kick and hits a Dragon Screw. Alexa then hits a few knees to the back in the ropes and drags Fallon to the mat. Alexa then hits a double knee drop and flip senton for a near fall. Reed then kicks Alexa and Fallon knocks her down. Fallon hits a few kicks and chokes Alexa in the corner. Reed then tags in and hits an uppercut. Jaycee then hits an uppercut in the corner and a backbreaker over his shoulder. Rhea then tags in and hits a short arm clothesline and a bell heel kick.
Rhea then hits a faceplant and a dropkick. She then knocks Fallon off the apron. Rhea then hits a fallaway slam on Jaycee. Rhea then goes up top and hits a missile dropkick on Reed. Rhea then goes to the apron and cannonballs Jaycee and Fallon. Fallon then grabbed Rhea’s leg and she kicked him away. Jaycee then distracts Rhea and Reed hits a kick that nearly knocks her over. Reed then hits a leg drop on Rea. Reed then sends Rhea into the corner and Fallon tags in and kicks Rhea. After that, Jaycee joins in and gets hit by a cannonball, almost forcing him to fall. Reed then tags in and she kicks Rhea. Reed then hits an elbow to the back of the neck. Rhea then lands a few punches and Reed hits an Irish whip and a knee into the corner.
Reed then hits a snapmare and a boot to the head. Reed then takes a near fall. Reed then stomps on the arm. Reed hits a punch and knocks Flair off the apron. Fallon and Jaycee then tackle Rhea while Flair gets the referee’s attention. Jaycee then tags in and snaps filly Rhea and kicks her in the back. Jaycee then nearly falls. Reed then tags in and she punches Rhea. Rhea then lands a few punches, but Reed sends Rhea back to the mat. Reed then prevents Rhea from making the tag. Reed then hits a neckbreaker. Rhea then hits a kick on Reed and Reed falls to the mat. Jaycee and Flair then team up and Flair hits a few clotheslines and chops.
Flair then hits a walkover clothesline on Jaycee. Flair then hits a kick on Reed and Reed hits a fallaway slam. Jaycee then hits an Irish whip and Flair hits a Flair flip and boot. Flair then kicks Fallon off the apron and Flair approaches Reed and Jaycee and hits a crossbody. Flair then hits a natural selection double for a near fall. Flair then hits a kick. Flair goes for a natural selection, Alexa goes for a blockbuster, but Jaycee and Reed hit a superkick. Jaycee then gets a rollup for a near fall on Alexa. Jaycee then hits a neckbreaker. Jade Cargill then dragged Rhea off the apron, but the referee didn’t see it. Jaycee then hits a rolling elbow on Alexa for the win.

After the match, Jade enters the ring in the Fatal Influence pose. They then leave the ring, leaving Jade in the ring alone. Jade stands over Alexa and tells her to stand up. Charlotte Flair then enters the ring, but B-Fab and Michin stop her. Rhea then hits a dropkick on Jade and a headbutt on Michin. Rhea then hits a kick to B-Fab. Jade then hits a bicycle kick. Fab then hits a full nelson slam on Alexa. Michin then hits a backheel kick on Flair while Jade stands on top of Rhea.
Royce Keys is then seen walking behind him and The Usos stop him. Jimmy said he saw him talking to Jacob. Jey then says he knows Keyes has something to do with his family, but he has to stay in his lane or Roman will see him and The Usos will leave.
Tama Tonga then makes her way down to the ring for the main event of the night against MFT, followed by Royce Keyes.
Single match: MFT’s Tama Tonga vs. Royce Keyes
The match starts with a dropkick by Tama. Tama then grabs Keys, but Keys sends Tama into the ropes. Keys then lifts Tama up and Keyes hits a running powerslam. Then the key hits the clothesline. He goes for a cover but Tama kicks out. Keith then hits a few right hands and goes for a suplex, but Tama gets back up. Tama then hits a chop to the sole of the foot. He then goes for a cover, but Keyes kicks out. Tama then goes to the ropes but Keyes hits an overhead throw. Then he grabs the balls, but the balls headbutt him. Tama then hits a flatliner and Keyes rolls out of the ring.
Tama then goes out, but Keyes picks her up and slams her into the ring apron. Keyes then runs towards Tama who is next to the ring steps, but Tama moves out of the way and Keyes runs into the ring steps. Tama then slams Keyes’ arm into the mat. Tama then hits a kneebar and Keyes hits a series of punches. Tama then hits a knee DT. Then Tama crashes into a sliding clothesline. Keys continues to throw punches, but Tama gets hit with a headbutt. Tama then works on the neck. Keith then punches Tama and hits a jawbreaker. Tama then hits a dropkick, but it results in a near fall. Tama then locks him in a reverse chinlock. Tama then gets on Keys’ back and Keys backs Tama into the corner and gets free. Tama then throws a punch, and Keys punches back.
Tama then hits an Irish whip and splash and a swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Tama then goes for a Tiger Driver, but Keyes hits a back body drop. Tama then misses a splash into the corner and Keyes hits a few clotheslines. Keys then hits a running shoulder tackle and a few splashes. Keys then hits a powerslam for a near fall. Keith then gets Tama to his feet, but Tama hits a reverse DDT for a near fall. Tama then kicks Keys in the head. Tama hits more kicks, angering Keyes. Keyes then sends Tama to the floor and brings Tama back into the ring. solo. Tara is then pinned down and Keyes returns to the ring. Keyes then hits a boot and Tama comes off the turnbuckle, but Keyes catches Tama and hits him with a spinebuster for the win.
The winner of the singles match is Royce Keyes!
After the match, Solo asks Keyes to rejoin him, and Keyes leaves.
Danhausen is then seen behind him and he is drinking the potion. Danhausen then removes the tooth and places it in a blue liquid. Then he claps and the lights go out. Danhausen then develops the potion and enters it into the computer. Then a spark will fly inside the cloning machine and a light will turn on. he. And within 24 hours he had a tag team partner for Backlash and said they were going to conquer the world with Backlash. His cloning machine stopped working, and Danhausen said it was broken.
Tama Tonga is then seen sitting in the back and Shinsuke Nakamura appears. Shinsuke tells Tama that he is disappointed and that his brother will no longer be able to help him. Tara Tonga then appears and tells Nakamura to stay away from his brother. Otherwise there will be problems. Nakamura then spoke to her in Japanese and left.
Next, Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett play the Backlash card.
Trick Williams is then seen walking through the backstage area. He is stopped by Nick Aldis, who tells Williams that everything he asked for is in place. Williams then said she was grateful to him.
We then see that the ring is being prepared for the gingerbread man’s funeral. Trick Williams then comes down to the ring. Trick tells the production team to cut the music. Trick then tells the WWE Universe to be patient and that hopefully they will get through this. Trick then pays homage to the gingerbread man. WWE will then air a video package that dives into all the memories the Gingerbread Man shared with Trick Williams and Lil Yachty. Trick then tells his friend the gingerbread man that he wants to remain silent.
Sami Zayn then comes out and ruins the gingerbread man’s funeral, and he calls it ridiculous. Sami says afterward that it meant something to close out the SmackDown episode. Sami then says that she thinks Trick was making fun of her. Sami asks Trick, “What did you use this money for?” Sami then says he respects SmackDown too much to do that. Sami then says that he is a working class hero who will represent Ride or Die fans until the end.
Sami then reminds Trick who he is. Sami then says he’s done everything he was supposed to do in WWE. Sami then says that he has been active for 20 years and has no plans to go anywhere. Sami then says he hates to give it to Trick, but admits that Trick got under his skin. Sami then says it’s personal. And I promise to make a joke out of tricks this Saturday. Sami then says that he’s disappointed that he lost, but that he’ll meet Trick at Backlash. Sami then hits a right hand. Sami then launches a vicious attack on Trick. Sami then raises the United States Championship, but the Gingerbread Man gets up. Then he took off his mask and it was Lil Yachty. He then hits Sami with a candy cane stick. Then Lil Yachty starts laughing. Trick then fires a trick shot at Sami. As the show draws to a close, trick music plays.
