AEW Star Reveals WWE Once Offered Him Iconic Gimmick Role

Blake Christian, a former WWE star, recently shared insights about an unused gimmick during his wrestling career. After signing with AEW, Christian had a brief stint in 2021 at an Endeavor-owned promotion, where he wrestled under the name Trey Baxter for nine months and made multiple TV appearances before being released.

One of his TV segments hinted at a potential superhero persona, though the concept was never fully developed. In a recent interview with Weeds Podcast, Christian explained that the idea for the superhero character was discussed several times with officials but never materialized while he was with the promotion:

"When I first joined, they approached me about doing this type of character, and I was open to anything. Then it didn’t happen. Later, when 2.0 came along, they decided to go ahead with it and said this was the perfect character for the show. I even designed the suit and named it. It came to life, just not with me."

Just months after Christian’s WWE release in November 2021, WWE introduced the masked character Axiom, portrayed by Spanish wrestler A-Kid, who debuted in July 2022. The character quickly won over fans and became a prominent figure in NXT.

When asked if this was the same gimmick originally planned for him, Christian confirmed it and shared that he created the gear concept, expressing admiration for A-Kid’s performance:

"Yes, it was supposed to be me. I designed everything. The person they gave it to did a great job, probably better than I could have done."

In late 2023, Axiom formed a tag team with Nathan Frazer, achieving two NXT Tag Team Championship reigns before moving to SmackDown earlier this year. Meanwhile, Blake Christian signed with AEW in early 2022 but has yet to secure a championship there.
