Colt Cabana recently shared his thoughts on working as a producer for AEW while expressing his ongoing passion for wrestling. In a conversation with Renee Paquette on Close Up, he described his role behind the scenes and how much he enjoys being deeply involved in the action.
“I’m right in the thick of things, and I love that,” he said. “I know wrestling inside and out since I’ve been a fan and performer for years. It’s great to put that experience to use.”
As a producer, Colt wears multiple hats, and one of his favorite aspects of the job is communicating with the production truck. “When I’m talking to the truck, it feels like I’m part of the match,” he explained. “People say it’s a three-way dynamic—the wrestler, referee, and the match—but I feel like the fourth person. I really enjoy that role.”
Though he finds satisfaction in producing, Colt’s schedule as a wrestler has been light. In 2025, he only had five matches, none in AEW. His last AEW bout was a dark match loss to Satnam Singh in December 2024, and the last time he appeared in a televised AEW match was in November 2022.
“The performer in me always wants to get in the ring, so it’s been a bit tough,” he admitted.
Whether Cabana will wrestle again in AEW remains uncertain, but for now, he’s proud to be contributing as a producer and embraces being “in the trenches.”
Fan Take: This insight into Colt Cabana’s dual role gives AEW fans a unique look at how former wrestlers can shape the product behind the scenes. His passion both inside and outside the ring is a reminder that wrestling thrives not just on athletic performance but also on the dedicated individuals who help bring the show to life.
