Jonathan Coachman Criticizes WWE’s Royal Rumble 2026: “Where’s the Surprise Factor?”

2 Min Read

Jonathan Coachman bypassed WWE’s usual review process by recording his Royal Rumble reaction live from the airport. In a video he shared, Coachman commented, “With a little help from security, we got an emergency Royal Rumble. At some point, you have to stop living in a bubble of, ‘I’m in WWE, so whatever I do is great.’ Roman Reigns versus McAfee was speaking the truth.”

During the clip, Coachman recounted a discussion with a security guard who voiced frustrations that align with many fans’ sentiments: “There were no surprises. Where was Chris Jericho? The Bella Twins alone? Why does Triple H keep saying there are so many surprises when there are none?”

Coachman didn’t hold back on critiquing WWE’s creative choices either, stating, “At some point, when are we going to actually get creative? Because yesterday we weren’t. And two individual matches? I literally introduced the entire GUNTHER match ‘off the ropes’ and they did exactly what I said they would do.”

He also expressed disappointment over how WWE handled Brock Lesnar’s elimination, pointing out that the focus was misplaced: “Have you ever seen a Royal Rumble match where one of the biggest stars of all time gets eliminated by eating someone and instead of being eliminated, Brock Lesnar shows eight minutes of eating? What are we doing?”

These remarks come as Triple H continues to promote WWE’s so-called “new era,” though Coachman — along with numerous fans — remains skeptical.

Fan Take: This candid critique is significant because it highlights growing frustration among insiders and viewers regarding WWE’s storytelling and booking decisions. If WWE hopes to truly capture the excitement of a “new era,” it must listen to feedback like Coachman’s and focus on delivering unexpected moments that genuinely engage the audience.
